CEO Sleepout 2017

On 22 June 2017, CEO Melissa Hamilton slept rough at Melbourne University to raise funds for Australia's most vulnerable people.

Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout invites CEOs every year to sleep rough for one night to raise funds and awareness for this important cause. The national event raises more than $10m annually.

Read on to discover why this cause means so much to Melissa and what the Stellar team did to support her.

In Melissa's words

“2017 is my fourth year of participating in the CEO Sleepout. It’s a cause very close to my heart, and I feel passionate about being able to use my position to help out those in need.

“So many people in Australia are going through something where they feel so alone and paralysed. I am honoured to be able to do something to show them that people care about them – and raise money for vital on-the-ground support at the same time.

“It’s truly humbling to meet people who are experiencing homelessness and to hear about their daily struggles and challenges. The times I’ve helped sell The Big Issue have opened my eyes to what people in Australia are going through on a daily basis.

“I would be touched if you would support me, together with St Vincent’s, in raising funds and awareness for such an important and worthy cause.”

Stellar gets cosy for a good cause

Stellar centres all over Australia kicked off fundraising efforts with pyjama days, giving Stellar staff the chance to wear their favourite fuzzy slippers and flannelettes into the office.

Our Joondalup Centre kicked us off on 5 May, raising over $550. Melissa spent the day in the centre and even held skip-level meetings with agents while wearing her Wonder Woman nightie. Not content to stop there, they held another pyjama day on 19 June - even getting our COO involved.

Our Box Hill Centre's day on 10 May attracted a fantastic amount of fluffy onesies, and the Gold Coast Centre on 25 May had its very own Captain America.

Chicken soup for the goal

Last year, Vinnie's provided 256,672 meals through their soup vans in Victoria, bringing a nightly meal and conversation for people who need it.

To pay an homage to this vital community service, every year Stellar locations across Australia hold soup days as fundraisers. With the cold weather settling in, it's a perfect time to enjoy something warm & hearty while raising money and awareness.

Our Box Hill Centre held a Soup & Curry Cook-Off on 17 May. Gold coin donations got you the chance to enjoy homemade winter warmers from the buffet.

On Monday 22 May, our Fortitude Valley Centre held a Soup & Scarf Day. Team members wore their favourite scarves and enjoyed warm bread and hot soup for a donation.

Our Corporate Office in Melbourne held a soup day on 13 June, with nine different options helping to raise $200.

Hats off to corporate

Stellar's Melbourne Corporate Office donned beanies for the day on Friday 26 May as one of their first fundraising activities.

The CEOs participating in the sleepouts nationwide were provided with beanies on the day to keep them warm in the elements. Sporting a beanie for the day is one way Stellar staff are showing solidarity with our CEO Melissa Hamilton.

Baking a difference

Bake sales are a way for Stellar's people to show off their culinary skills, raise some funds and enjoy a brownie or two.

Our Wollongong Centre held a bake sale on 29 May, with more centres following suit.

Quietly raising the stakes

The Melbourne Corporate office held a silent auction on 9 June, with the senior leadership team and some of Stellar's partners generously donating some lavish gifts for the cause.

Head of Asian Markets Kelli Gorman donated her favourite wines; and Head of Sales & Marketing John Zisis put together a box of his personal beauty product recommendations. Other gifts weren't quite as tangible - our CIO Farid Jarrar offered up a personal drone lesson for one lucky recipient.

The competition was fierce with some bids coming in over the retail price (and one prize going for $250). Overall, $2,034 was raised to support this worthy cause.
